Reverse description The entire reverse is dominated by a highly detailed, faithful bas-relief reproduction of the Aztec Sun Stone (Stone of the Sun), commonly known as the Aztec Calendar. At the center is the face of the solar deity Tonatiuh, surrounded by concentric rings bearing the symbols of the twenty days of the Aztec ritual calendar (tonalpohualli), the cardinal directions, and other cosmological glyphs rendered in fine sculptural detail. The denomination, year of issue, weight, purity, and mint mark are inscribed along the lower periphery of the coin.
