Cuba's central bank was established in 1950 under the Batista government, making this commemorative issue a peculiar artifact — a revolutionary institution celebrating the anniversary of a body it had effectively abolished and reconstituted in entirely different political terms. The Banco Nacional de Cuba, created after 1959, was itself reorganized and the Banco Central de Cuba only formally re-established as a separate entity in 1997, just three years before this note appeared. The anniversary framing therefore requires some generosity in arithmetic.
The Pick 120 series is not rare in uncirculated form — large quantities reached the collector market shortly after issue.
