Talleres de Especies Valoradas — the Chilean state printing works in Santiago — had been producing the country's banknotes domestically since the early 1930s, a deliberate policy shift away from foreign security printers that followed the 1925 banking reforms and the creation of the Banco Central itself. By the time this note entered circulation, Chile was navigating the economic aftershocks of the Great Depression and the collapse of nitrate revenues, which had gutted public finances for over a decade.
