The original 1870 100 Pesetas was among the first coins issued under the Provisional Government that followed Isabella II's forced abdication in 1868 — Spain's monetary system was being rebuilt almost from scratch, aligned with the Latin Monetary Union standards adopted that same year. This 2002 replica was part of a broader Real Casa de la Moneda program reissuing historic Spanish types in base metal for collectors who couldn't access the originals, which trade at significant premiums in any grade.
