The Magyar Nemzeti Bank was established in 1924 as part of the League of Nations-supervised stabilization program that ended Hungary's catastrophic postwar hyperinflation. This 100 Pengő note — issued in 1926, the same year the Pengő itself was introduced to replace the Korona at a rate of 12,500 Korona to 1 Pengő — was among the first issues of the new currency, carrying the considerable burden of public trust that had been destroyed by the preceding collapse.
The series was printed by the Hungarian Royal State Printing Office in Budapest. Engraving quality on these early Pengő notes is notably fine for a domestically produced issue of the period.
