| Obverse description | The coat of arms of Macau occupies the central field, featuring the Portuguese shield supported by two kneeling winged angels facing inward. A royal crown surmounts the shield, with a cross-staff to the left and an armillary sphere to the right. A ribbon scroll beneath the supporters bears the city motto in three segments. Thirteen five-pointed stars are distributed around the inner field. The legend 'MACAU' arcs along the upper periphery, while the date '1985' appears in large numerals at the bottom, all within a beaded border. |

| Reverse description | A finely detailed water buffalo (ox) is depicted in left-facing profile at center, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field, commemorating the Chinese Lunar Year of the Ox. The numeral '100' arcs across the upper field, flanked by two five-pointed stars. The denomination legend 'PATACAS' curves along the lower periphery. To the left of the ox, the Chinese characters '壹百' (one hundred) are inscribed vertically, and to the right '澳門' (Macau) appears in two vertical characters, all within a beaded border. |

| Additional information |
Macau's lunar series issues of the 1980s were produced under the Monetary Authority during a period when the territory was still under Portuguese administration — a status that would not change until the 1999 handover. The 1985 Ox issue was struck for the collector market rather than circulation, part of a broader regional trend in which Hong Kong, Macau, and Singapore competed for the same numismatic buyer base with nearly identical silver specifications.
KM#31 shares its 28.28g/.925 silver format with dozens of Commonwealth-adjacent issues of the decade, a deliberate choice to align with the Royal Mint's standard commemorative module.
