The Ora is the community currency of Orania, a small Afrikaner enclave in the Northern Cape, and has operated since 2004 as a closed-loop local tender — accepted only within the town and designed explicitly to keep economic activity circulating among residents rather than leaking out to national retailers. It is not legal tender under South African law and has never claimed to be; the Reserve Bank has acknowledged its existence without suppressing it, an unusual accommodation.

The H series, running from 2023, represents the most recent print run. Beyers signs as Voorsitter — chairman — of the Orania Chamber of Commerce, the issuing body rather than any banking authority.
