Additional information

Issued to mark the centenary of formal banking in Nigeria, this coin commemorates the 1894 founding of the African Banking Corporation's successor institution, the Bank of British West Africa — the first bank to operate on Nigerian soil. Nigeria's commemorative silver program of the early 1990s was modest in scope, and this piece was struck in limited quantities primarily for the collector export market rather than domestic circulation.
