| Obverse description | Two ho-oo (phoenix) birds, one male and one female, rendered in bold relief in a highly decorative East Asian artistic style, disposed symmetrically to either side of the central rectangular aperture. The birds display elaborately detailed plumage with sweeping tail feathers and foliate scrollwork filling the field. The composition is framed by a plain raised border following the oval outline of the flan, with the rectangular hole serving as the compositional axis around which the mythical, auspicious birds are arranged. |
