Rio Grande do Sul's state treasury issued these "Bônus do Tesouro" notes during a period when the federal government under Vargas had effectively centralized monetary authority — making locally printed state paper a political anomaly as much as a financial instrument. The Livraria do Globo was primarily a bookshop and publishing house in Porto Alegre; its lithographic workshop produced competent but commercially modest work, a far cry from the intaglio security printing common to federally issued paper of the same decade.

Series F implies at least five prior series, suggesting sustained demand for supplementary state liquidity well into the 1930s.
