Obverse description Printed in green and yellow with intaglio, the obverse carries a central engraved portrait vignette of Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865–1957) rendered in fine recess engraving, with two authorising signatures below a guilloche underprint at bottom centre and the series year 1986 at upper left. The bank name in Finnish runs along the top margin, with the Swedish equivalent set vertically along the right margin. A vertical security thread is embedded through the centre-right of the paper, with an optical variable device at upper right and three raised intaglio tactile circles at centre.

Reverse description The reverse, printed in green and grey intaglio, bears a vignette of whooper swans in flight over a lake landscape with a dark conifer forest rendered in fine line engraving at right — an allusion to Sibelius's tone poem The Swan of Tuonela. The bold numeral 100 appears at lower right within a geometric guilloche panel, with the denomination in Finnish and Swedish in italic script at lower centre-left. The bank name in Finnish and Swedish is printed at upper left alongside the Finnish coat of arms.
