Obverse description Right-facing bust of Pope Pius XI in high relief, depicted in full pontifical vestments including an ornately embroidered cope bearing heraldic eagle motifs. The Pope wears a zucchetto and is portrayed with naturalistic modelling of facial features in the Renaissance medallic tradition. The circular legend reads PIVS XI PONT MAX ANNO IVB around the upper field. The engravers' signatures MISTRVZZI and A MOTTI INC appear incuse along the lower rim.
