Emergency local scrip issued during the 1970s Italian coin shortage, when municipalities, savings banks, and cooperatives across northern Italy produced their own low-denomination substitutes to fill the gap left by hoarded and melted coinage. The Cassa di Risparmio di Trento e Rovereto issued these notes through individual branch offices, with the Mezzolombardo branch explicitly named — an unusual degree of local specificity that reflects how fragmented and informal the whole system was.
These miniassegni, as they were commonly known, had no formal legal tender status. Acceptance was essentially voluntary and geographically limited to the issuing branch's immediate area.
