Additional information

European Music Year was a Council of Europe initiative marking the tercentenary of Bach, Handel, and Scarlatti — all three born in 1685. Sweden's participation produced this commemorative, with the Riksbank issuing it during a period when silver commemoratives were increasingly seen as revenue instruments rather than genuine circulation pieces. Most were sold directly to collectors at a premium over face value and never spent.
