Additional information

Issued to mark the International Polar Year 2007–2008, a coordinated global research initiative involving over 60 nations focused on Arctic and Antarctic science. Denmark's participation carried particular geopolitical weight — the country administers Greenland, which sits at the center of Arctic territorial and environmental research. The coin was struck in .999 fine silver, a purity step above the more common .925 used in most Danish commemoratives of the period.
