Obverse description At center, the Czechoslovak Socialist coat of arms depicted as a shield bearing a rampant lion passant, set within a pentagonal cartouche. The circular legend 'ČESKOSLOVENSKÁ SOCIALISTICKÁ REPUBLIKA' runs along the upper periphery. The denomination '100 KČS' appears in the lower field beneath the shield. The design is rendered in moderate relief with a lightly textured field.

Reverse description Left-facing bust portrait of Viktor Kaplan, the Austrian inventor and hydraulic engineer, occupying the majority of the coin's field. The legend 'VIKTOR KAPLAN' arcs along the upper right periphery. The centennial dates '1876 · 1976' appear vertically along the left field. The engraver's initials 'LH' (for Luděk Havelka) are incused below the truncation of the bust near the lower left. The portrait is modeled in high relief with fine detail to the facial features and clothing.
