| Obverse description | At center, the national emblem of Papua New Guinea depicts a Raggiana Bird of Paradise with wings and ornamental plumes fully spread, perched upon a traditional kundu drum rendered in fine relief. The bird is shown facing left with open beak and elaborately detailed feathering. The legend PAPUA NEW GUINEA arcs along the upper periphery in bold incuse letters, while the date 1995 appears in the lower field below the central device. A decorative inner border of alternating dots and lozenges frames the entire composition. |

| Reverse description | A Raggiana Bird of Paradise is depicted in dynamic flight at center-right, grasping in its talons a flowering branch with detailed foliage and blossoms, while holding aloft the national flag of Papua New Guinea bearing the Southern Cross constellation. The long, cascading ornamental tail plumes sweep dramatically across the lower left field. The denomination K100 is inscribed in large bold characters in the lower field. The commemorative legend 20th ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE curves along the upper periphery, and the entire design is contained within a beaded inner border matching that of the obverse. |

| Additional information |
Papua New Guinea achieved independence from Australian administration on 16 September 1975, and the kina was introduced simultaneously as the new national currency — one of the few cases where a country launched both statehood and a completely new monetary system on the same day. The 1995 issue marks the twentieth anniversary of that event. Fr#18 is scarce in any condition; the series was struck in limited quantities for collector distribution rather than circulation, and examples with original packaging intact are considerably harder to source than the raw coins suggest.
