| Reverse description | The centre of the reverse is dominated by a large intaglio vignette of a Bird of Paradise in flight with wings fully extended, rendered in fine line engraving against an elaborate guilloche background. Two large symmetrical rosette medallions flank the central bird, interlaced with fine geometric lathe-work patterns. The denomination numeral 100 appears in the upper left and lower left corners, with the serial number prefix block printed in letterpress at upper left and upper right. The inscription NIEUW GUINEA is set in the lower margin, flanked by the issuance legend. |

De Javasche Bank ceased to exist as a private institution in 1953, when it was nationalized and reconstituted as Bank Indonesia. This note, dated 1954, was therefore issued under a transitional arrangement — the old name and design framework carried over briefly while the new central bank established its own identity and printing contracts. It is one of the last issues to bear the Javasche Bank name at all.
Joh. Enschedé en Zonen had printed Dutch colonial currency for generations, and their Haarlem facility produced work of consistently high intaglio quality. The watermark security on this series is relatively modest by Enschedé's own standards.
