Additional information

Anthony Nesty's gold medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics was one of the genuine upsets of the Games — the Surinamese swimmer beat American favorite Matt Biondi in the 100m butterfly by a single hundredth of a second. Suriname, a country of fewer than half a million people with no Olympic swimming tradition, had produced a world champion. The KM#42.2a variant distinguishes itself from the base metal issue through its .999 fine silver specification, part of a broader commemorative program the Centrale Bank issued across multiple formats.
