The P#205 series was printed by ABNC during a period when the Duvalier government — specifically Jean-Claude, who had just inherited power from his father François in April 1971 — maintained tight control over the monetary system through the Banque Nationale. The 100 Gourdes denomination was substantial for everyday Haitian commerce, making most examples low-circulation survivals rather than genuinely used notes.
ABNC's contract with Haiti stretched across several decades and multiple political regimes. By 1971 the relationship was long-established, and the plates show the kind of refined intaglio work the company had refined over generations of Caribbean and Latin American commissions.
