Obverse description Two slalom skiers depicted in dynamic relief occupy the central field: in the foreground, a modern competitive skier in full racing gear and helmet leans aggressively into a turn, while behind stands a classically dressed female figure holding ski poles, evoking the historical origins of the sport. The engraver's signature J. JIMENEZ appears in the lower right field. The legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE arcs along the left and upper periphery in bold stylized lettering.

Additional information

Issued as part of France's official program for the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics, this coin appeared two years ahead of the Games — an unusually long promotional lead that reflected the scale of the commemorative series Monnaie de Paris had committed to producing. Albertville was the last Winter Olympics held before the IOC split the Summer and Winter Games into alternating two-year cycles.
