Reverse description The elaborate coat of arms of the Second French Empire occupies the central field, featuring a shield charged with the Napoleonic eagle displayed, draped with an ermine-lined mantle surmounted by the imperial crown with cross finial, and flanked by two crossed fasces with axe-heads. The denomination 100 FRs is inscribed in large characters to either side of the lower mantle, while the circular legend EMPIRE FRANÇAIS arcs across the upper field. The mint mark A and date appear in the exergue, accompanied by the engraver's privy mark, all within a continuous beaded border.
