| Reverse description | The denomination '100 FRANCS' is prominently displayed in large Latin numerals and letters in the central field, with the Arabic equivalent 'فرنك' (Francs) below. The year of issue appears in both the Gregorian calendar ('AN 1953') and the Hijri calendar ('1372'). An outer legend in Latin reads 'MAROC EMPIRE CHERIFIEN' (Morocco Sharifian Empire), interspersed with the corresponding Arabic text 'السكة المحمدية الشريفة' arranged around the periphery. Essai strikes for this issue were produced in Paris in 1953, the final year before the French Protectorate authorities exiled Mohammed V to Madagascar — a miscalculation that transformed him overnight from a constitutional nuisance into a nationalist martyr. The Protectorate never saw a circulation issue follow. Independence came in 1956, and with it an entirely new coinage under the same monarch.
