Additional information

The king cobra is not native to West Africa — a fact that makes this Ivorian issue purely a collectible commodity rather than a nationally symbolic release. Ivory Coast has operated an aggressive bullion and numismatic program through the Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique de l'Ouest, routinely licensing exotic wildlife and global themes to generate foreign collector revenue, largely independent of domestic circulation needs.
