Issued as a trial strike (essai) tied to the FAO's ongoing campaign to promote food security across developing nations, this piece was never released for general circulation. The Comoros had declared independence from France just two years earlier, in 1975, and the Institut d'Emission des Comores was itself a newly constituted authority still establishing its monetary infrastructure. Essais of this type were typically produced in very small quantities for administrative and archival purposes.
