Burundi has no historical connection to the Berlin Wall — this is an explicitly commemorative issue produced for the collector market, one of dozens of small-nation gold miniatures struck under licensing arrangements during the 2010s when mints aggressively marketed sub-gram gold coins to new collectors. The 25th anniversary of the Wall's fall in 2014 prompted a wave of such issues from unrelated sovereigns.
