Obverse description A draped female figure is depicted seated in three-quarter view at centre, facing right, holding upright a stone tablet inscribed with the national motto. The figure wears a traditional head covering and necklace, rendered in high relief with fine detail. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE DU CONGO arcs around the upper field, while the denomination 100 FRANCS is inscribed along the lower rim. The motto UNITE TRAVAIL PROGRES appears incuse on the tablet held by the figure.

Reverse description A woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) is depicted in bold relief, striding to the left across a rocky foreground, its long curved tusks sweeping prominently to the left. A crescent moon occupies the upper left field, and stylised coniferous trees are rendered in the lower left background, evoking a prehistoric landscape. The legend ANIMAUX PRÉHISTORIQUES arcs along the upper rim, the date 1994 appears in the lower left field, and the scientific genus name Mammuthus is inscribed in italic lettering along the lower portion of the field.
