| Additional information |
Ivory Coast has issued commemorative coinage under the CFA franc system since the 1960s, but the country's relationship with the Vatican adds specific weight here: Côte d'Ivoire is home to the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace in Yamoussoukro, consecrated by Pope John Paul II in 1990 and holding the record as the largest church building in the world by internal area. Benedict XVI never visited Ivory Coast during his pontificate, making the "Journey" framing on this piece an aspirational rather than documentary title.
