The "Jacobus Maior" epithet identifies this as part of a series honoring Saint James the Greater, whose pilgrimage route — the Camino de Santiago — remains one of the most traveled religious paths in Europe. The Republic of the Congo has no historical or cultural connection to that tradition; the issue is frankly a bullion novelty coin produced for the collector export market, a practice the Congolese mint has pursued aggressively since the 2010s.
At 0.5 grams of .9999 gold, actual metal value is minimal. These were never intended for circulation.
