| Obverse description | The obverse features the national coat of arms of Benin centrally positioned in the field, depicting a quartered shield with a castle and a star in the upper quarters and a palm tree and a sailing ship in the lower quarters, supported by two rampant lions. Above the shield, a buffalo head is displayed as the crest. A ribbon below the shield bears the national motto in three sections: FRATERNITE, JUSTICE, and TRAVAIL. The denomination 100 FRANCS CFA is inscribed in two lines in the lower field. The legend REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN arcs along the upper periphery. |

Bénin adopted the CFA franc as part of the West African Economic and Monetary Union, yet has periodically issued collector pieces denominated in CFA that bear no relationship to circulating currency — this is one of them. The fifth portrait of Elizabeth II, sculpted by Jody Clark and introduced in 2015, ended up on remarkably few coins before her death in September 2022, making 2023 issues bearing it posthumous by definition.
