| Additional information |
The Republic of the Congo — not to be confused with the neighboring Democratic Republic — has become one of several small Central African states licensing their sovereignty to private minting programs aimed squarely at the bullion novelty market. These fractional gold issues carry legal tender status on paper, though no 100-franc CFA coin has ever functioned as circulating currency.
At 0.5 g, the gold content is roughly a sixteenth of a troy ounce.
