| Additional information |
Djibouti's independence from France came on June 27, 1977, ending over a century of colonial administration in what had been French Somaliland and later the Territoire français des Afars et des Issas. The 2002 issue marks the 25th anniversary of that transition. Low mintage figures are typical for Djiboutian commemoratives of this period, as the country's domestic coin market was — and remains — extremely limited, with the franc pegged to the US dollar at a fixed rate since 1949.
