Obverse description Central cartouche with Arabic inscriptions naming Ahmad Pasha, Muddat Bey of Tunisia, flanked on either side by stylized wheat ears and olive branches in high relief. The denomination of 100 francs is inscribed in Arabic within the cartouche, below which appears the word ESSAI in Latin characters and the Islamic year 1357 in Eastern Arabic numerals. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border and an ornate outer milled rim.
