The Bank of Central African States — the BEAC — issues currency for six member nations: Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon. All six share this coinage and the CFA franc, a currency pegged to the euro at a fixed rate inherited from its original peg to the French franc, a colonial monetary arrangement that has faced sustained criticism from African economists and governments for decades.
