Obverse description A standing gazelle facing left occupies the central field, rendered in fine relief with naturalistic detail. The legend "REPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD" arcs along the upper periphery, while the commemorative inscription "60 ANS DE L'INDEPENDENCE" curves along the lower periphery, notably misspelling "INDÉPENDANCE" as "INDEPENDENCE". Small decorative dots punctuate the border at intervals. The design commemorates the 60th anniversary of Chadian independence.

Additional information

The BEAC franc zone has used a near-identical 100-franc specification since the CFA franc's post-independence redenomination in 1960, making individual annual issues largely indistinguishable in circulation across six member states — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon. The currency itself is pegged to the euro at a fixed rate of 655.957 CFA francs, a ratio inherited directly from the pre-2002 French franc peg.
