The Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique Équatoriale et du Cameroun was a transitional institution, superseded in 1972 by the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale when Cameroon's political relationship with the equatorial franc zone was formally restructured. This coin was struck right at the edge of that changeover, making the 1972-dated pieces effectively the final issues under this issuing authority's name.
