Obverse description The obverse is laid out in a letterpress typographic style typical of early nineteenth-century French provincial banknotes. At upper centre, the heading reads 'CAISSE D'ESCOMPTE' above the bold title 'BANQUE DE ROUEN,' followed by the founding inscription 'Etablie en mil huit cent sept.' To the left, a rectangular intaglio vignette presents an allegorical seated female figure with classical attributes. The denomination '100 Francs' appears in the left and right margins, and the note bears a large red 'ANNULÉ' cancellation stamp across the centre.
