Issued to honor Zoran Mušič, the Slovenian painter who survived Dachau and later made the experience the subject of his most unflinching work — the "We Are Not the Last" series, executed decades after liberation. Slovenia issued this coin the year after his 2005 death, part of a broader program commemorating nationally significant cultural figures following independence.
The .900 gold standard used here follows the fineness established for Slovenian collector gold before euro adoption normalized the .9999 benchmark elsewhere in the eurozone.
