Additional information

Issued to mark the centenary of Thessaloniki's incorporation into the Greek state on November 8, 1912, during the First Balkan War. Greek forces under Crown Prince Constantine entered the city just hours ahead of a Bulgarian division advancing from the north — both powers had been racing toward the same objective. The timing was decisive; had Bulgaria arrived first, the postwar settlement might have looked quite different.

The .917 fineness places this squarely in the 22-karat standard used across the Bank of Greece's modern commemorative gold program.
