Additional information

Antoni Gaudí died in June 1926, struck by a Barcelona tram three days before he was found — unrecognized, his clothes too worn for passersby to identify one of the city's most celebrated architects. The centenary this coin marks is therefore not of a building or a design achievement, but of that death. Casa Milà, completed in 1912, had already been the subject of municipal fines and public mockery before it was ever finished.

The building was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984, grouped with six other Gaudí works.
