The Europa series 100 Euro note introduced the "satellite hologram" — two small €100 numerals orbiting the large digit as the note is tilted — alongside a revised Emerald stripe that produces a more complex light effect than the first series. Both features were direct responses to increasingly sophisticated counterfeiting operations that had specifically targeted the 100 and 200 denominations throughout the 2000s and early 2010s.

Gerstetter designed and engraved the entire Europa series, a rare case of a single specialist holding both roles across a major currency programme. The 2019 print run of just over 12 million is modest by ECB standards, reflecting the denomination's relatively low transactional demand compared to the 50.
