Additional information

Croatia adopted the euro on January 1, 2023, becoming the twentieth eurozone member — the first new entrant since Lithuania in 2015. This issue commemorates that accession and was struck in the same calendar year as the changeover, making it one of the earliest Croatian euro-era numismatic pieces by date. The necktie motif references a widely accepted origin story: the cravat, ancestor of the modern necktie, is traced to Croatian mercenaries serving in France during the Thirty Years' War, whose distinctive knotted neck cloths were adopted by French fashion in the 1630s.

The .9999 fine specification places it above the more common .999 standard.
