| Obverse description | A highly detailed, colorized close-up portrait of the Black Lizard (Podarcis melisellensis melisellensis) occupies the central field, rendered with naturalistic precision and highlighted with applied blue coloring on the reptile's flank scales. The lizard faces right, its textured head and upper body emerging dramatically against a finely engine-turned wave-pattern background. The circular legend along the upper periphery reads REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA and CRNA GUŠTERICA, while the denomination 100 EURO appears along the lower right rim, all in upright Latin lettering. |

Croatia adopted the euro on January 1, 2023, making the Croatian National Bank one of the most recent entrants to the Eurosystem. Collector gold issues like this one fall under an exemption that permits eurozone national banks to produce legal tender bullion and numismatic pieces outside of ECB design mandates — the same provision that allows France and Finland to issue thematic gold coinage independently.
The black lizard (Lacerta agilis and related endemic species) holds particular ecological significance in the Adriatic karst region. The colored treatment on a .9999 fine gold flan is applied after striking.
