| Obverse description | The obverse commemorates the Slovenian independence referendum of 23 December 1990. The date '23.12.1990' is prominently displayed in the field, accompanied by the country name 'SLOVENIJA', the issue year '2020', and the denomination '100 EURO' arranged in a bold, modernist typographic composition. The design is rendered in a graphic, flat relief style characteristic of contemporary commemorative coinage. |

The 1990 plebiscite referenced here delivered a 94.8% vote in favor of Slovenian independence — one of the most decisive democratic mandates in any European secession event. Slovenia declared independence on June 25, 1991, though the ten-day war with Yugoslav federal forces followed immediately after.
