| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of Pope Benedict XVI set within a recessed rectangular frame at center, depicted wearing a zucchetto and richly embroidered pontifical vestments. The portrait is rendered in high relief in a refined neoclassical style, engraved by Uliana Pernazza whose signature appears in the lower exergue below the frame. The circular legend reads 'BENEDICTVS XVI PONT. MAX. ANNO IV MMVIII' distributed around the portrait, flanked by decorative dotted arcs in the field on either side. |
