Obverse description The Portuguese coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting the traditional escutcheon charged with five inescutcheons arranged in a cross, each bearing five bezants, and surrounded by a bordure of seven castles. The shield is rendered in high relief against a plain field. The denomination '100$00' appears in the upper portion of the legend, with the circular inscription 'REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA' running along the periphery.
