Obverse description Central field displays the five quinas shields of the Portuguese arms arranged in a cross formation, with one shield at top, three in a horizontal row at center, and one below, all set above the bold denomination '100 ESCUDOS'. The circular legend 'REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA' arcs along the upper periphery, while 'ACORES' appears at the base. Two sprigs of laurel flank the lower field, and nine five-pointed stars arranged in a triangular formation separate the denomination from the lower legend, symbolizing the nine islands of the Azores archipelago.

Reverse description The full heraldic coat of arms of the Autonomous Region of the Azores occupies the central field, featuring a shield charged with a goshawk and nine stars, supported by a chained lion dexter and a chained bull sinister. Above the shield rises a double-headed eagle displayed, flanked by two banner-bearing lances. A scroll beneath bears the regional motto. The encircling legend 'REGIAO AUTONOMA DOS ACORES' runs along the upper periphery in Latin characters, and the date '1980', flanked by decorative rosettes, appears at the base of the field.
