| Obverse description | The Dutch rampant lion passant, rendered in a stylized heraldic manner, occupies the central field, depicted rearing to the left while brandishing an upright sword in its right forepaw and clutching a bundle of arrows in its left. A ring of twelve stars encircles the lower portion of the field, referencing the European Community. The legend KONINKRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN arcs along the upper periphery, with the denomination 100 ECU positioned along the lower border and the date 1995 to the left of the lion. Mint marks are visible in the lower field. |

| Reverse description | A finely detailed bust of Hugo Grotius (Hugo de Groot), the celebrated Dutch jurist and father of international law, is presented in right-facing profile within a rectangular frame that occupies the central and right portion of the field. Grotius is depicted with flowing hair and a short beard, wearing a period ruff collar characteristic of early 17th-century Dutch fashion. The legend GROTIUS is inscribed vertically along the left edge of the inner frame, while his birth and death years 1583-1645 appear horizontally along the lower edge of the frame. The overall design has a precise, engraved quality befitting a proof-struck commemorative issue. |
