Jamaica's 2012 London Olympics coincided with Usain Bolt's second consecutive sweep of the 100m, 200m, and 4×100m relay golds — a performance that made this issue almost instantly thematic beyond its face value. The island's track program had by that point become the dominant force in global sprinting, and the timing of this coin's release was not coincidental.
KM#204a is the gold variant of a bimetallic series; the base-metal sibling saw far wider distribution, leaving the gold issue with a comparatively limited collector audience despite its topical appeal.
