Additional information

Issued to mark the July 1981 marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, this was one of dozens of Commonwealth commemoratives produced for the occasion — the Bahamas among the more prolific issuers of royal event coinage throughout the 1970s and 80s. The Central Bank had already established a pattern of gold commemoratives tied to British Crown milestones, continuing a relationship that persisted well after independence in 1973.

The .900 fineness places it in line with Bahamian gold commemorative standards of the period rather than the .916 favored by some contemporaries.
